Much happier with my Treo

Cingular posted an update on the Palm website for the Treo. I've got 6 meg of memory back, which I am slowly using it up.

The best news is that I can hook up my notebook via bluetooth and get internet access. It's faster than dialup, slower than broadband, and might get me through problems I'm anticipating for next year.

I'm actually relying on the Treo much more than I did before.

My next debate -- is do I get a bluetooth headset. I'm thinking not. I don't talk on the phone that much, and I'll lose the headset in my hair. It's bad enough to see someone walking around talking to themselves and seeing a cord, but it makes it really weird when you don't see any visible means.

I'm also thinking about a keyboard. I actually did buy one, but it was a universal one, and wasn't fun to use with the Treo. The Treo 600 keyboard spoiled me, because it has keys for specific Treo functions.

Computer and Diabetes

Cyber-Pancreas: Computers and Diabetes

Good subject Jay! (From Cyber Pancreas)

I've blogged about my software in the past, and I differ a bit from Jay. Rather than having my software web-based, I prefer to have it private and in my hand, so I like PDA-based software.

I use EzManager, which comes with my pump, but is available from Animas. One problem though, we seem to have run across a bug in the conduit lately, and it doesn't perform well with Documents to Go. I'll let people know if and when they fix.

The PC version produces reports which can be printed out -- the PDA part only shows logs, which are useful for my health care team, but I would like the PDA to produce at least the daily report.

I like Diabetes Pilot also.

I've tried the other pieces of software he mentioned, and I agree. You need a complete management system.

Calorie King produces some nice nutritional software and I've tried their diabetes management software, but I like Diabetes Pilot better.

Treo 650

I was forced to upgrade to a Treo650 today. I knew it was coming, the old one was looking ragged, sounding bad on calls etc. I had checked on it a few weeks ago. I really wanted to keep the 600 until they had another device upgrade, because the accessories aren't very compatable.

I am thinking about sending the old Treo to Palm and pay for it to get refurbished. That way I would have a backup.

Vaguely related to diabetes...

I have dust allergies and my mom is always trying to get me to vacuum daily -- yeah, right, but finally I'm going to make her happy.

I finally broke down and bought a Roomba vacuum.  Both my husband and I have been skeptical that it could handle the dog hair, but it appears it does it fine.

Amazing piece of technology.  I got the "Discovery" edition and so far, I've got my living room clean.  Probably going to leave it in the gym and front hallway tomorrow because I have it picked up and the major wads of hair are gone.

I love my Treo!

While I REALLY want a Treo 650 -- I'll probably skip that number and wait for the one after.

But I live and die by my Treo. I have EzManager by Animas installed, TakePhone -- mostly save on phone bills since my long distance is not completely free, 2Day, Today+ and Snappermail. Also have a few games, music, etc.

Here's how my day goes -- I check my Treo, because it tells me when I need to change my site (through ToDo and 2Day). I warn myself the day before, and have a note to do it.

Whenever I eat, I enter my food and let EzManager calculate my insulin. I also have Butler setup to remind me to check my blood sugar 2 hours after I usually eat breakfast and 2 hours after our lunch.

I also enter my blood sugar when it is too high so I can get a correction. I do wish it would do an Insulin on Board Correction, but maybe someday. I should also sit down and figure out how to do that myself.

I use Snappermail and the web interface to take brief breaks from the real world to check email and what is happening on the web.

I've even gone so far as so get a portable keyboard and I use it to take notes.

And yes, I use the phone ... it is SO nice to have it all in one package, wish it would actually DO a blood sugar test.
