Gastric Bypass Surgery a cure for Type 2 Diabetes?
March 02, 2003
An interesting article.
A friend of mine is on the waiting list for gastric bypass surgery. Frankly, it scares me to death, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to go there soon.
The first person to bring it up, was a gastric doctor. I really didn't like him, because he believed the test results more than the results my pulmonary (sleep specialist) came up with. And put him down. And the sleep specialist recommended him. My sleep specialist and primary care physician both wanted me scoped to make sure I had no esophogal damage.
The first thing that this gastric guy came up with, was that I should get gastric bypass surgery and that I should go to his brother-in-law to have it done.
I'm 43. I'm just not ready to go there, especially when I have been able to do it on my own in the past. However, the facts in this article are interesting, and if they do more work on this and get more positive results, I might consider it. Especially if it is covered by my insurance. Currently they say not, unless medically necessary. Though I believe the gastro would said it was. I'm just not ready to go through the battle yet.
By the way, my friend's surgery is being covered by her health insurance. Several of her doctors have declared it medically necessary.
