I talked with the doctor, saw what @shanselman had to say and decided to go with short acting insulin only. Here's why:
- The Lantus prescription costs about $153.00
- I have used long acting insulin for a year, and it sucked. It was Lily 70/30 insulin and it always had an uneven release causing roller coaster highs and lows.
- It's only until Monday morning. I can wake up every four hours to take another shot for three days, especially since I don't have to report to a job with other humans.
- I have a diabetes alert dog that won't let me get into trouble.
So the doctor sent me instructions based on my pump settings. I've put those settings in a OneNote page, and as I said earlier, I'm tracking what I am doing with that One Note page. Probably will keep everything on one page.
I've been pumping insulin since 2004. This is the first pump I've killed by my actions and the first time I've had to go back to shots. I have been using insulin since 2002. I think I can do the 4 days and the Lantus is sitting in the pharmacy fridge.
Oh, and by the way, my Walgreens was out of pen needles, they should get a box of needles with each box of pens.
