Agility

The girls really spoiled me yesterday.

So far, we've had two nice runs today - but since they were excellent runs -- we didn't get any where.

Yesterday I ran into a lady who took an obedience class from me years ago, who teaches in the next building. When I told her where and what I was teaching, she asked if the former principal was trying to get rid of me. Seems that when that principal was at her school the same thing was done to her. She left me wiith this -- it took a year, but she's now where she belongs was before it all started..

Weight and Food Issues

Friday brought home another thing I need to be careful to avoid, When I get overly tired, I eat, which is the last thing I need to do in that situation.

The first thing I need to do, is just make sure I don't get that tired, which can be hard. However, maybe now that agility is on the earlier, winter schedule that might get better.

This should be a bit better week for the tired thing, especially if I can get some sleep tonight. No agility -- we have parent conferences on Thursday, though we do have another trial next weekend.

Teacher Workshops don't do me well

I thought I was being smart. I set my temp basal to 30+ at around 6:30 for 8 hours but my blood sugar is 216 and I ate a known breakfast and did my symlin.

I upped the temp basal to 40% and did a correction and checking every hour.

Part of the problem is organization. Once I got here no one was sure where I was supposed to go.

Then the district had my registration but the company putting on the workshop didn't have my name. I have some paranoia on the score that I won't get into here.

Yikes!

I loaded up the beagle girls after a quick dinner and workout. We're off to a fun match. Blood sugar is 99 so I've stopped off for a Sonic salad and diet limeade and I think I willskip the bolus. With the insulin on board i'm in danger of crashing.

I think i'll pick up some CadberrySwepps sugar on the way to, just in case.

Mouth pain

One of the issues that got to me during the trip was tooth and mouth pain.

The change in pressure really bothered the tooth I've been having with. I've also come to the conclusion I'm having gum problems.

I'm about to see, I'm at the dentist.

Diabetes traveling overseas

One good thing about the trip is that diabetes didn't get in the way. I will put the cause of that on the new pump.

Several times I used the food list on the pump but a lot of the time I guessed and corrected later.

I'm going to talk to CDE before I do any more tweaking but I do like the results I've seen so far.

Sleep

Right now my biggest issue is sleep. Periodically I forget how to sleep. No one understands this.

Weird things trigger it. This time its the trip and the other stress I am going through.

I honestly don't know how to fix this.

Trip to Monte Carlo

I decided to change the pump time when I got on the plane. I will have to watch things since I have dawn syndrome so bad.

Things I like about my IR1250

First, 500 food entries are a lot. If someone upgrades from an IR1200, don't feel cheated, as I barely have 100 in mine. Mostly things I might eat if I don't have my Treo handy.

I think I'll still be using the Treo, but I'll probably let the pump calculate the units, since it slices finer than the Treo.

I love the vibrate alarm 1 hour after I bolus. I might change it to two, haven't decided. I had been checking two hours after, but with the IOB, checking an hour works okay too.

I don't have to have vibrate, I could have a tone, but vibrate is better.

So far the cartridge isn't a probably but even on my worst days later, I'm using less than 60 units a day.

The cartridges are great. I've filled two in a row with absolutely no bubbles. Much easier than the IR1000.

Since I have plenty of insulin, (I've reduced my intake from 120 units a day to 60), for right now, I'm planning to completely fill the cartridge. I'm not sure how much I'll have left after priming, etc.

I'll do that for a few days.

It really is paying off!

I just finished two agility runs and wasn't completely out of breath!

I'm even down another half a pound.

Some of the best things is that I am not noticing gastric reflux symthoms as much. Mostly chest pains, but nothing bad. I haven't woken up in the middle of the night especially.

Love the dentist

Can't really call him new.

He snuck up on me today which is actually the right thing to do. He replaced the temporary filling.

I have full confidence now which is a good thing.

CDE Visit

Saw my CDE today and will see her before the trip to Monte Carlo so I warned her.

We dropped my evening bolus since i'm consistantly correcting 180s. I may need to drop it further but I'm into small corrections.

Best news...lost 3 pounds and blood pressure was 116/74

CDE Visit

Went to the CDE for my monthly, keep on track, visit.

Last month I was very depressed, having problems with all my health issues.

This trip was different. First, I had lost 4 pounds since the last visit, which I DID not think had happened. I've now lost 25 pounds since I started seeing them.

I took them the lab results from last weekend, and they were also very pleased.

Nice to see that I'm headed in the right direction.

Speaking of Weight Loss...

It's not going as well as I would like lately.

However, I feel I'm mostly recovered from the few weeks without exercise. My bolus ratios are still low, but my daily insulin usage has gone done substantially AND my blood sugar levels have stabilized again.

The good news, is that I lost the weight I had temporaily gained and now I am not gaining.

Gastric bypass surgery

I have been thinking about surgery since if I am going to do it, I need to do it this year.

Lots of reasons not to though -- first, I can always wait a year, and it wouldn't be that big of a thing.

I am afraid I would be trading one set of medical problems for another.

There is a huge possiblity insurance won't cover it, and I'm definately a believer that you don't rely on insurance 100%. In fact, I just talked to someone who has had the surgery, happy with it, but has already paid for over half, and I wouldn't be surprise if she doesn't end up paying for all of it.

FYI: If you don't count on insurance covering things you won't be rudely suprised. Been there, done that.

I am still afraid that going with WLS means trading one set of health problems for another. In fact, I only have one health condition that will probably be solved by weight loss surgery, and I consider it the least of the problems (GERD).

I also consider that waiting a year means that I'll have a stronger case, I definately am getting good documentation on weight loss via the CDE.

So I really think I'll not be doing surgery. It really only comes up with me when I realize that it's six months until June AND I'm depressed about weight loss, or lack there of.

Dog Agility

Finally both the big dog and I managed to run an Excellent course successfully. I think one of our issues is that she isn't used to me being able to run.

It was even the hardest type course for us, jumpers with weaves. We had a clean run under time and took first.

Traveling -- at the Workshop

I have NEVER been at a better organized teacher workshop.

They scheduled the workshop around the airline schedule. One other person flew in. We were picked up at the airport and brought to our dorm room to leave our luggage behind.

Then we had a short introduction, and then lunch, then an packed afternoon with lots of good information.

All meals have been easy for me to deal with. Carb counting has gone well and my blood sugar has been stable.

The dorm room was fabulous. Someone needs to hire these people to organize workshops, as they are great.

I'm going to leave the workshop early since the other participant has to connect to another flight.

Traveling

I was patted down ... which was okay. The ladies were very nice and had lots of questions about the pump.

That puts me in teacher mode which after 12 years of teaching, actually relaxes me.

However, the SW person at the beginning of the line was rude and insisted my 3 bags had to be consolidated, even though one was a medical device and is exemt. I checked on that by phone yesterday.

Not a huge problem but annoying. I caan tuck my wallet in my emergency bag and often do.

Having the Treo helps pass time. While it took an hour to get to the airport from the car, I did get here 2 hours early.

Did something smart, got a keyboard for the Treo which makes it infinitely more usable! Especially for applications like this.
